In Math we’re using different models to find equivalent fractions. So far, we’ve used fraction strips, bar diagrams, and number lines. The students are beginning to notice some incredible patterns and connections that are helping them with their number sense about fractions.
In Reading we just completed a pre-assessment in which students listened to a fictional narrative and answered some questions about the characters. Then, they used a rubric to critically examine their assessments and set some thoughtful goals. This is all to help them prepare for our new unit Interpreting Characters: The Heart of the Story.
In Writing the students brainstormed some important memories to prepare to write their very own personal narratives. Then, they mapped out their stories using a story arc. Next, students will draft their narratives and work through the editing and revision process.
In Science we learned about different types of plants and seeds, and how they are classified into groups. We learned about plants based on their features, and seeds based on the way they travel. Later this week we’ll move on to our first social studies unit all about maps!
