In Math students are developing their problem-solving skills by working through multi-step word problems. Students should be practicing the 3 reads strategy in which they first read to understand the problem, then read to understand the math (numbers and operations) and finally think about strategies to solve the problem. Practicing this strategy will help students find the most important information in their word problems and solve unfamiliar word problems they encounter in the future.
In Reading we are wrapping up our unit on narratives and moving on to guided reading groups. Students will apply what they learned in our narrative reading unit to think deeply about texts and practice sharing their thinking in small group discussions guided by teachers.
In Writing students are publishing their fictional narratives! After a celebration of student work, students will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned through our personal narrative and fictional narrative writing units to write their own fantasy stories. I can’t wait to see what these creative writers come up with!
In Social Studies students are still working to learn about how the climate and terrain of a region impacted daily life on Native Americans in the 1500s-1700s. Our goal is to wrap up this unit in plenty of time for our Igloos to Adobe field trip!
