In MATH students are continuing our work with factors and multiples. We are currently investigating factors of related numbers. For example, 36 is a multiple of 12 and therefore all the factors of 12 are also factors of 36. We are working to show our understanding using visual models. We'll use this week to review and assess our learning, before moving on to our next unit about representing measurement data in different types of graphs.
In SCIENCE students are learning about the different types of rocks and how they are formed. Next week we will move on to discuss the rock cycle and the layers of the earth. Our knowledge of the layers of the earth will help inform our lessons about plate tectonics in the coming weeks.
In READING students are thinking deeply about their reading, and writing about it in Reader's Response letters! This helps open a dialogue with each student about what they are reading, pushing them to think more critically about their texts. Next week we will move into our first unit of study, focusing on character development in narrative texts and how it can help us better understand the text as a whole.
In WRITING students brainstormed important events or memories to write about in personal narratives. We spent the week gathering ideas, and will begin organizing them into a story arc next week before drafting.
